Quite clearly, the universe has been begging us humans for help and we haven’t been listening. And it’s not the first time, but we still haven’t learnt to listen to our planet. Personally I've been trying to reach up to the stars for the last two years, it hasn’t been easy but I knew that it was my time to change and do something for me. I've still got so much to do and learn on this journey and I’m by no means perfect, but I am so awake now and full of energy and happiness for the future. There is a saying I like which says we only grow when we are faced with uncomfortable or unfortunate situations. Tough times turn us into better human beings. I would wish Coronavirus away instantly, but the reality is that it’s here and it may be here for a long time. It has taken so much from all societies. Too many have suffered or died. Yet we still need to find something positive in this situation. We need to remain grateful for the extra time we have been given to spend with our loved ones and reflect on our lives. I’m sure it won’t just be me changing a few lifestyle habits for the better. Let’s move germs to one side and talk about the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement. This is an issue that speaks to me deeply, and I strongly believe that we should all be fighting this togeth- er. My father is Mozambican. He came to Portugal when he was 17 years old and, because he was African, many doors were closed to him. But you know what? With hard work and dedication, many windows opened, and my father was, and still is, the most positive human being I have met in my life. For him nothing is impossible, and he has come such a long way from the kid struggling to eat and gain access to education, to the great self-made MAN that he is today. In times like this, I always have in my mind my “heart daughters”, Tuca, Tayo and Helena. They are also African, and I shouldn't have to protect them from racists. They deserve to be happy, well educated and informed. Unfortunately, my eldest already feels the difference between herself and "the other girls", and that's just so wrong. The other day I asked her about the BLM movement and she said: “Well, it’s super nice that everyone is worried about Black Lives Matter, but at the end of the day, I still have the security guard following me at the supermarket thinking I'm going to steal something”. She is already in her 5th year of medical school, and her intelligence and focus have re- mained the same throughout her life. She is balanced and calm and believes in herself, but it's still very hard for her, a strong young lady, to go to her University hall and be asked if she is there to work as a maid! I could talk about big names that have changed history, and when I say history I don't mean only black history, but world history, like Martin Luther King Jr., Alvin Ailey, Mohamed Ali, Maya Angelou, Nelson Mandela, and so many more. Still, I have seen my father's and my family's unjust experience first- hand, and also my personal experiences as a white woman in Mozambique setting up my hotel. When will this end? Why are people like this? Who taught peo- ple to see colour and not fellow human beings? What's wrong with our education system? Where is all this hate from? Let's put an end to it! We can make a change. We can teach our kids better. Education is key. Since we are talking about BLM, let me introduce you to our super Cool Dad (who also has a super strong and independent wife). His name is Guillaume Lalung and he has two beautiful kids, Lonô and Luan. You’ll have the chance to meet them in this issue. For Power Mum, we have the amazing fitness guru Brooke Burke. She is not just one of the biggest names in the fitness world, but has an even bigger job: she is a mum. You'll get to know her better in the next few pages. Because our super stars are always the kids (and the Covid-19 crisis has made things difficult), we had to find a way to portray them even in quarantine life. We thus challenged our photographers to develop editorials with their own children and the results are AMAZING! Speaking of amazing, be sure to check out an ed- itorial by the incredible photographer Isabel Pinto, whose work is always so close to my heart. Make sure to also have a look at our Wonderkid Daisy Grace Belcher, a multifaceted artist at only 14 years old. Despite feeling disappointed with the world sometimes, I still hugely believe in human beings and I know that you and I are good people. I'm grateful for everything I have and that you are reading these words, which are so close to my heart, in this magazine. It is an absolute dream come true. Thank you! Kanimambo.
